The keynote of our teachers at BODW Series 2 in Hong Kong: read more if you are curious about AI as a creative material. Discover how Domus Academy redifines the future of design!
Domus Academy Head of Design School Giovanni Caruso and Course Leader of the 2-Year Master of Arts in Design Innovation Stefano Cardini recently took part in Business of Design Week (BODW) Series 2 in Hong Kong — one of Asia’s most vibrant platforms for design and innovation. Their contribution included a keynote speech, a panel discussion, and an interactive workshop, all dedicated to exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of design.
BODW Series 2, organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre, gathers leading voices from across the globe to share insights, challenge ideas, and inspire new approaches to creativity. The event celebrates design as a driver of progress — fostering dialogue between disciplines, industries, and cultures. The session brought together leading voices to explore how curiosity drives innovation at the intersection of design, AI, and emerging technologies.
In their engaging keynote, professors Cardini and professor Caruso invited the audience to look at AI not just as a digital tool, but as a creative material — one that opens up new possibilities for design thinking and experimentation. Drawing on Domus Academy’s research and real-world projects, they shared how curiosity can guide designers toward a more critical and imaginative use of technology.
By embracing AI with an open and reflective mindset, we can push beyond established boundaries and reimagine what creativity means in the age of intelligent systems.
Building on the themes of their keynote, Professor Caruso and Professor Cardini led a dynamic and collaborative workshop where participants co-created a speculative “future manual.” Through hands-on visual and written exercises, they explored how AI might transform design practices, collaboration, and authorship in the years ahead.
The workshop encouraged a spirit of play, curiosity, and critical reflection — a hallmark of Domus Academy’s educational approach — offering participants a chance to imagine new relationships between human creativity and artificial intelligence.
Participating in Business of Design Week is a meaningful way for Domus Academy to share its philosophy and educational vision with a global community of innovators and designers. Events like BODW embody the academy’s commitment to curiosity-driven learning, cross-cultural exchange, and the continuous exploration of design’s evolving future.
