As part of the Envisioning workshop in collaboration with Samsung, students of the Master in Product Design and Interaction Design – Shane Bana, Javiera Bakic and Ekin Yuksel – developed Navi, a physical, AI-driven device created to detect misinformation.
In today’s AI-driven world, misinformation is a growing issue, shaping public opinion and influencing decisions. As our dependence on artificial intelligence increases, so does the need for tools that foster awareness and critical thinking, rather than passive content consumption.
Navi was designed with this very purpose: to detect misinformation through the analysis of audio and visual inputs (OCR and ASR) captured via Bluetooth and external microphones.

The device continuously processes information from both device inputs and external sources, cross-referencing it with reliable fact-checking databases such as Snopes, Reuters Fact Check, PubMed, and WHO. Based on the confidence level of its analysis, Navi provides real-time feedback through movement and light:
By making the detection of misinformation interactive and intuitive, Navi empowers users to engage critically with the content around them. It acts as a bridge between automation and human judgment, encouraging a more thoughtful and active approach to media consumption.
