The Semester Course provides the foundations of Product Design, from materials and technologies research to product manufacturing.

Duration: 16 Weeks | Language: English | Start: February, September, November

This approx. 16-week journey will lead you to join selected theoretical courses with professionals, active learning sessions and workshops working in international and cross disciplinary teams and taking advantage of many networking occasions.

THE COURSE

The Semester Course in Product Design will lead you to join selected theoretical courses with professionals, active learning sessions and workshops working in international and cross disciplinary teams and taking advantage of many networking occasions.

After successfully completing the Semester Course, eligible students will be recognised 24 CFA/ECTS and will obtain a Certificate of Completion.

The 24 CFA/ECTS credits will be delivered upon successful completion of the course to students enrolled in the accredited path only; they will be used in case of progression to a Master’s Programme inside Domus Academy and might be validated at the option of the chosen University of reference in case of a transfer’s request to a postgraduate programme.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Participants are expected to have a first level academic degree or a previous professional experience in the related field of study.

IELTS 5.0 certificate or equivalent is required.

All courses are taught in English. A high level of proficiency in the English language is required.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Semester Course structure is organized in two modules.

Each module includes one theoretical course and one workshop in the specific area of interest.

Theoretical Courses

DESIGN CULTURE
Based on the Made in Italy brand, the Design Culture course aims at exploring and discussing a wide range of case studies and sources for understanding the nature, languages and values of the contemporary design scene while developing critical and analytical abilities.

DESIGN FORMATION
The course explores different design strategies through the analysis of iconic projects in order to form a design critical thought and a visual communication strategy.

Workshops

ENVISIONING
Through field research, physical or digital analysis, the Envisioning workshop investigates cultural and social conditions that will have an impact on our society in a medium or long-term perspective for questioning and envisioning the role of design and designers.

ADVANCED DESIGN & PROCESSES
The Advanced Design & Processes workshop explores a design integration approach, which is based on bringing together research, materials, advanced technologies for design manufacturing and digital fabrication to create innovative products for the industry.

Aoi Hasegawa

After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Architecture and Building Science at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Aoi Hasegawa launched her career as a set designer at Fuji Television Network in Tokyo, where she designed sets for Japanese and international musical acts. In 2005, Aoi moved to Milan and earned a second master’s degree at Domus Academy.

Niko Koronis

Niko graduated in architecture from the Welsh School of Architecture, where a year later he did his Master’s degree in Environmental Design of Buildings. He then moved to Milan, where he attended Domus Academy and obtained a master’s degree in Design with distinction, after which he spent a year as Master’s Design Tutor.

In 2005, Aoi moved to Milan and earned a second master’s degree at Domus Academy.

Since 2006, she has been working with Domus Academy, first as a project assistant and tutor and now as programme leader of the Master in Product Design and Master in Interior & Living Design course. She also collaborates professionally with various companies and studios in the fields of product, interior, and strategy design.

Niko graduated in architecture from the Welsh School of Architecture, where a year later he did his Master’s degree in Environmental Design of Buildings. He then moved to Milan, where he attended Domus Academy and obtained a master’s degree in Design with distinction, after which he spent a year as Master’s Design Tutor. Back to London he received his Phd in Architecture from the Architectural Association. In addition to his studies, he has been a Fellow at Central Saint Martins in London and a researcher at the Alvar Aalto Foundation in Helsinki.

He has taught, lectured and undertaken research in architecture, urban and product design in numerous universities throughout the world and has taken part in several exhibitions, amongst which the Venice Biennale, Triennale di Milano, Miami Basel, etc. Today he lives and works in Milan.
