John Zimmerman: Leading Researcher in Human–AI Interaction
John Zimmerman is an internationally recognised user experience and service designer whose work centres on human–AI interaction, human–robot/agent interaction, and AI innovation. With more than 25 years of experience, he has contributed to a wide range of pioneering intelligent systems—from early TV show recommendation algorithms to real-time transit arrival tools, clinical decision-support systems, and everyday technologies designed to enhance personal safety.
Academic Activity
He has authored over 200 publications and is a member of the ACM CHI Academy. Zimmerman teaches UX design, service design, lean start-up, and AI product and service design at Carnegie Mellon University. Earlier in his career at Philips, he invented the scrolling method now used universally on smartphones and tablets.
