Matthew Wizinsky’s work spans design practice and theory. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Practice in Urban Technology at the University of Michigan, where he is pioneering new models of design education aimed at empowering urban changemakers.

Wizinsky’s recent research focuses on how design can help reorient social practices toward localised, commons-based systems for meeting collective needs. His work includes the development of innovative tools and methods for UX and service design, as well as the facilitation of public workshops that promote peer-to-peer production as a desirable and culturally relevant alternative to dominant economic models.

Wizinsky holds a PhD in Transition Design from Carnegie Mellon University, a field dedicated to envisioning and enabling sustainable, long-term societal transitions.

At Domus Academy, Wizinsky will present a talk titled Designing for Social Practices, focusing on themes from his acclaimed book Design After Capitalism (MIT Press, 2022), which proposes a range of strategies for using design to shift everyday politics, social relationships, and economic structures.
