Domus Academy is thrilled to welcome Liam Young as the next guest speaker in the Disrupting Patterns Talk series, taking place on 17th September at 5:30 PM CEST.
Liam Young is an internationally renowned designer, director, and BAFTA-nominated producer, celebrated for his boundary-pushing work at the crossroads of design, fiction, and futures. Described by the BBC as “the man designing our futures,” his visionary films and immersive speculative worlds confront some of the most urgent environmental and social issues of our time.
A pioneer in worldbuilding, Young designs the cities, landscapes, and technologies of imagined futures for the film and television industries, as well as through his own critically acclaimed projects. His work has premiered on global platforms including Channel 4, Apple TV+, SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival, The Royal Academy, Venice Biennale, BBC, and The Guardian.
His films are part of the permanent collections of leading museums such as MoMA New York, SF MoMA, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Smithsonian, Victoria and Albert Museum, M+ Hong Kong, and the National Gallery of Victoria. He has been featured in TED, Wired, Time Magazine, New Scientist, Arte, and many more international media outlets.
In addition to his filmmaking career, Young has been an active academic, teaching at prestigious institutions such as Princeton, MIT, and Cambridge, and currently at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. His latest publications include Machine Landscapes: Architectures of the Post-Anthropocene and Planet City, a speculative vision for a city housing the entire human population.
