The New Normal – COVID-19 and after
Domus Academy responds to the current crisis launching a new collective project of lectures, workshops and final projects titled The New Normal. This context is the starting point for reflections on and for the future. The project is a unique opportunity for students to show their talents and creative ideas through critical reflection, analysing the strengths and fragilities of our global society nowadays.
The project started with a cycle of lectures. Mark Anderson, Director of Education of Domus Academy, gave a talk called “The New Normal: Considerations on the Present Future”. Following four talks with the title of “The New Normal: Context Perspectives” were conducted by Dante Donegani (Architect and Designer), Stephan Petermann (Architect, Researcher AMO and visiting professor CAFA Visual Arts Innovation Center), Nicola Lagioia (Writer and Director of Turin International Book Fair) and Emanuele Coccia (Philosopher).
Apart from the lectures, the collective investigation involves a series of nine separate five-week workshops and includes students from 11 different Master’s programs. Students have to work on different themes and to explore solutions through the distinctive framework of each discipline.
The aim is to encourage reflection and creativity, identifying areas of change and to envision realities of a post-crisis system. As a post-graduate design school, the outcome of this analytical and creative process will take the form of project proposals, business and retail models, brand strategies, communication proposals, fashion collections, and interactive and applied technological scenarios.
Due to this pandemic, Luliang Chen chose the photographer as the user of his project. Photographers need to frequently work outdoor, therefore functions and lifestyles need to change accordingly.
