Together with his brother Fernando, Humberto founded Estudio Campana in Saõ Paulo in 1984: they are often, and affectionately, called «the Brothers» or the «Campanas».
The studio operates in the areas of architecture, landscaping, scenography, fashion as well as special projects and commissions.
Estudio Campana has been a pioneer of disruptive design, creating a ground-breaking and unpredictable language.

The creative process raises everyday materials to nobility, bringing not only creativity to design but also Brazilian characteristics – the creative chaos and contradictions of Brazil.
Recycled or natural materials such as sticks, rope, bamboo, natural fiber, but also rag dolls, stuffed toys and ecological fur – and a triumph of abundance of colors and the generosity of forms, simple solutions in an artistic and poetic way.
So their body of work spans from industrial design for companies such as Edra, to art design for Carpenters, Friedman Benda and Giustini / Stagetti galleries, via limited editions created for maisons like Louis Vuitton and Fendi.
Campana pieces are part of permanent collections of renowned cultural institutions such as Centre Pompidou and the Musée Des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, MoMa, New York, Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo and Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein.
In 2009, the Campana Brothers founded Instituto Campana, in order to preserve their ever-growing collection for future generations and to promote design as a tool for transformation through social and educational programs.
The interview by Caterina Lunghi, journalist and teacher, is part of the “Disrupting Patterns” series, multidisciplinary open lessons oriented towards innovation, design, contemporary and future themes.
