In Alê Jordão’s world, nothing seems destined to remain what it was. A Brazilian artist and Domus Academy alumnus (from the Master in Product Design), Jordão has spent more than two decades moving between art, design and urban culture, transforming familiar objects and symbols into something unexpected.
His greatest source of inspiration? The city itself.
Born in São Paulo, Jordão studied Fine Arts at FAAP before moving to Milan, where he attended the Master in Product Design at Domus Academy, graduating in 2000. The encounter between his artistic background and design helped shape an approach that still defines his work today: moving freely across disciplines, materials and scales. It is a mindset closely connected to the Domus Academy approach, where design becomes a space for exchange between different languages and perspectives. Jordão brings this attitude into a visual universe shaped by skateboarding, music, sneakers, street signage, industrial materials and popular culture. Sculpture, installation, furniture and public art become different expressions of the same creative vocabulary. Neon is one of his most recognisable tools: a way of making something ordinary suddenly appear extraordinary. The question behind it seems deceptively simple: what happens when we look at a familiar object from a completely different perspective?
Jordão’s connection with Milan and Domus Academy did not end with graduation. In 2025, twenty-five years after completing his Master’s, he returned to Milan Design Week, presenting projects including Artistic Tapestry of Sneakers and Neon Puzzle. In 2026, new works continued this dialogue between art, design, light and popular culture. It is also a reflection of the international Domus Academy community: creative journeys that begin in Milan and continue to evolve, reconnect and generate new encounters over time.
The latest chapter of Jordão’s practice takes us back to São Paulo. With Bicho Solto, his new public art project along Alameda da Mata, between Cidade Matarazzo and Avenida Paulista, sculptures, installations and neon works become part of the urban landscape.
Nature and urbanity, instinct and control, freedom and structure meet along a route designed not simply to be observed, but experienced. And here, Jordão’s journey seems to come full circle. For years, he has brought the city into his work, transforming its objects, symbols and materials. With Bicho Solto, art moves back into the city. From São Paulo to Milan and back again, his trajectory reveals what can happen when art and design stop being separate categories and become different ways of imagining the world around us.
