From this, he made the point of designing for participation while activating environments through technology, which describes the works of his company, Umbrellium.

At first Usman explored the topic through a socio-political framework, and then guided the students in discovering a selection of his projects, from Blurble to Thingful and Umbrellium’s latest projects like Starling Crossing.

Usman Haque is currently Creative Director & Founding Partner at Umbrellium. Trained as an architect designing both physical environments and software systems, Usman launched the company in 2007 to transform how cities are designed and built.

Author of dozens of articles on cities, citizen participation and the internet of things, he is a recipient of Japan Media Arts Festival’s Excellence Prize, Asia Digital Art Award’s Grand Prize and a World Technology Award.
