Alum Larry Laske, Famed Product Designer, Speaks to Students

On Thursday, May 31 at 6 p.m., Domus Academy will host a guest lecture by Larry Laske, alumnus of the Master in Product Design program and enigma of the design world.
Larry will speak about his life during his Domus Academy period and a radical transformation that followed.
Larry has won several national and international awards. His Toothpick Cactus and Saguaro Cactus tables are produced by Knoll.
His appetite for the whimsical and the unexpected is also apparent from his collaborations with famed designers: Ettore Sottsass, Emilio Ambasz, Philippe Starck, and Ingo Maurer. After a very challenging recovery from a brain tumor, Larry’s life took a pivotal shift. He founded A Brain Tumor and a Dream, devoting his life to offering the young generations of designers, artists, and architects the kind of inspiration and opportunity that he experienced in 1986 at Domus Academy.
The goal of A Brain Tumor and a Dream is to restore an abandoned building—an 18th-century church in Caltabellotta, Sicily—and turn it into a center for design inspiration.
