FUNCTIONAL SIMPLICITY

Master in Product Design in partnership with Magis – September 2018

Magis is the brand that has given a novel twist to domestic design, building its identity on incorporating leading edge technology into mass production. Born in 1976 in the North- East of Italy by the genius of Eugenio Perazza, newcomer to the industry, Magis is today a major international design company, experimental semantic content, to technological sophistication, to the variability of human capital.

Brief

Magis has been producing iconic furniture by collaborating with the best designers from all over the world since 1976. The common aspect of all their products is the combination of high functionality with nice aesthetic, research, innovative technologies and use of new materials in an ethical and poetic way. One of the most technical pieces in the furniture field has always been the extendable dining table. What would be the new Magis version of it? The challenge given by the company is to design an extendable table that integrates simplicity, elegance and innovation, both in terms of manufacturing and functionality. The material will be extruded aluminum but other materials can also be considered as additional. In the final outcome, technology, materials and form should be integrated in a remarkable design solution.
