Metaphysical Club. The school of consistency: building true stories in work, life, careers

The second meeting of the Domus Academy Metaphysical Club is inspired by Italo Calvino, one of the 20th century’s greatest authors and one of the few people that was really able to imagine the millennium in which we are living now. Thirty years ago, in 1985, right before his death, the Italian writer was about to finish his “Six Memos for the Next Millennium”, lectures meant to be held at Harvard University: the last one in particular although never completed is dedicated to the value of Consistency.

Today, thanks to the extraordinary group of intellectuals, designers, curators, professionals, architects, that are part of the DAMC, we have decided to try imagining what Calvino may have written, focusing on the meaning of Consistency for intellectuals, designers, curators, professionals and architects of tomorrow – our students.

Together with personalities such as Hans-Ulrich Obrist, Alice Rawsthorn, Patricia Urquiola, Jefferson Hack, and with special guests Richard McGuire and Shumon Basar, we will ask ourselves how important is the most uncommon value – consistency – for the contemporary scene and for future schools.
