Professional figures within the design field are under constant change, skills and abilities required to designers are often overlapped. Visual design as a discipline encompasses the old physical and the new digital media as well as strategic approach to brands and their communication. Experience design involves a more abstract approach, where structure and  function are strictly connected to the customer journey. Albeit these two approaches may seem to be different they can be considered as the two facets of new professional’s requirement to respond to the growing needs of Industries and institutions.

The Program in Visual & Experience Design is a unique opportunity to acquire both views around the same subject: to experience hands-on skills and in-depth knowledge on how to design the identity of a company and/or organization by integrating graphic design skills with strategic thinking; and to approach the experience of the brand and/or organization, both in terms of services and communication, analyzing and developing the customer approach and journey.

Audience

The program is designed for candidates with a first-level degree and/or professional experience in Visual and  Graphic Design; Interaction Design; Communication and Marketing; Media and Web Design; New media and creative coding; Software Engineering; Architecture; Product Design; Communication Science; or curriculum in other disciplines related to the program field  of study.

Outcome

During this degree program, students will:
• Produce innovative and individual body of work combining creative features and feasibility in the Visual& Experience Design field.
• Create innovative and individual projects and means of expression showing high creative standards in professional practices.
• Experience the real Industry arena while developing their own vision within their domain and forward.
• Be able to work with and influence others, while capitalizing on different group perspectives to meet goals in diverse, complex, and global business environments.

Program

The Master Program in Visual & Experience  Design is workshop-based, supported by seminars, lectures, tutorials, and fieldwork. Industry professionals, the program leader, and project leaders guide students via individual and team coaching and project mentorship.

The program is structured and organized in 4 pillars, which form an integrative and complete learning experience. Each pillar is composed by key elements that support the necessary development of theoretical and practical knowledge which is taken by the students to appraise and achieve the objectives. The structure is consecutive in order to support student’s progression and personal development.

Courses

Courses focuses on:

  • Exploring the nature, languages, and values of the contemporary design scene
  • Analyzing new aesthetic and behavioral trends in the marketplace
  • Gaining hands-on experience with a wide range of visual design techniques
  • Investigating methods and tools for reach and design
  • Exploring the factors that determine the economic performance of a brand or company
  • Developing digital and physical visual narratives to set a storytelling approach to professionally          manage the visual body of work in all its phases.

Workshops

Guided by industry professionals and faculty project leaders, you will work in cooperation with leading companies on practical projects relating to entrepreneurship and business design. Some possible workshop topics include the following:

  • Use a mix of communication strategies and design tools in order to develop the global brand identity of a small to medium-sized company, a product line, and/or a startup.
  • Analyze user activity and social behavior to solve product design problems; use narrative design           tools such as storytelling, storyboards and videos.
  • Explore the design process from the point of view of people and their activity in everyday contexts.   learn to decipher people’s needs, expectations and desires; develop user scenarios, create and            validate solutions.
  • Observing the relation between people and brands in which brands assume a human connotation and a personality, whose core values are represented through the visual image, communication style and behaviors, interaction models, tone and language.
  • Fostering developed branding and elaborate upcoming scenarios as a complex body of work that goes beyond the definition of a visual image.
  • Definition of a complex scenario within the main domain of User Experience analysis applying methodologies and best practices through  primary research activities.
  • Management of techniques to representing activity flows and complex systems and of visual representation and formalization of knowledge garnered.

Final Project

The final project encompasses the previous intensive project based experience of the students, supporting them to create an individual project. In this module students produce a structured body of work, reflecting their own development  and professional personality  demonstrating high level technical skills.

Students develop an individual and flexible approach to research. They exhibit a clear relationship between research, final report, project and presentation.

Main Objective of this Module is the production of a project at a professional standard combining creative features and feasibility in the Visual& Experience Design field.

* The Master of Arts Degree is validated through BiTS University of Business Leadership. BiTS and all its study programs are German state recognized.

In order to receive a Master of Arts Degree recognized by German State, students of the relevant Master Program have to be enrolled in BiTS University of Business Leadership.

Check Entry Requirements

When considering candidates for admission, the Admissions Manager looks at the applicant’s entire profile, including their academic records, work experience (if any), extracurricular activities, test scores, and recommendations.

Requirements for Beginning the Master of Arts Degree Program

  • A first-level academic degree (bachelor’s degree or academic diploma*) in a field related to the selected study program
  • Certificate of English language proficiency (IELTS Academic score of 5.0 or higher, or recognized equivalent)

The course leader and the Admissions Committee evaluate each application to determine whether the applicant’s degree and technical skills correspond to Domus Academy requirements. They identify credit deficits and/or credits that could be transferred.

Master’s programs are open to students with a degree or diploma in an unrelated field if the applicant has completed or will complete additional research in the subject area.

Participants not holding a first-level bachelor’s degree or academic diploma will not earn the educational credits, but they will receive a Domus Academy Master’s Diploma (not recognized by the German State) upon successfully completing the program.

IELTS and Equivalent Certificates

Proficiency with the English language, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite for admission.

Our English language requirement is an IELTS Academic score of 5.0 or higher, or a recognized equivalent certificate, to be submitted by the beginning of the master’s program. The certificate should not be more than two years old.

  • Gather all documents listed in the application form.

The evaluation of an application is based on the positive assessment of both the Course Leader and Admissions Committee.  Upon receiving your application and required documents, each course leader and the Admissions Committee will evaluate your application to determine whether your degree and experience correspond to Domus Academy requirements. They also identify credit deficits and/or credits that could be transferred.

If you are accepted to Domus Academy, you will receive an admissions letter and package.

Enrollment

Our sister school, BiTS University of Business Leadership, which shares our campus, awards the Master of Arts Degrees. In order to receive a Master of Arts Degree Diploma recognized by German State, students of the relevant Master Program have to be enrolled in BiTS University of Business Leadership.

Upon receiving these items, Domus Academy will provide non-EU applicants with all necessary assistance in order to apply for the student visa. After you are formally enrolled, you are requested to pay the total tuition fee by the starting date of the course.
