Domus Academy at Milano Arch Week
Domus Academy Master in Urban Vision & Architectural Design students together with the Program Leader Elisa Poli will be the protagonists of the Milano Arch Week that will take place in Milan from June 12th to 18th.
The performance Beyond Representation #1 will take place on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th from 11:30 am at the Triennale di Milano.
A short trip will start from the “Bagni Misteriosi” by Giorgio De Chirico, involving art and the park itself. The story of Triennale XV, with its temporary pavilions scattered inside the Sempione Park, will blend with the recent devices designed by Domus Academy students for a workshop created by Elisa Poli, Matteo Ghidoni, Davide Rapp and Luca Astorri around the theme of design representation. Following fantastic trajectories, the audience, in the green frame of the heart of Milan, will be invited to listen to the stories of these fragile and precious objects from the students’ voice.
Beyond Representation #2 will take place on Wednesday 14th from 8pm in the Lab Room of Triennale di Milano. The theme of representation is one of the most debated during the beginning of the 21st century. Digital modelling as well as the extensive use of 2D and 3D design programs has led many to believe that a paradigm shift is occurring. Having passed the link between the form and the ideology of architectural language, design has made use of digital tools as a spiritual mantra able to free the idea from the limits of classical narrative (plan, section, perspective, assonometry) by opening its eyes to a process of research never explored. In the twenty years that separate us from these first “miraculous” instances, many valid arguments have been made on the subject. But for students and professionals this remains a central topic of project work, sometimes underestimated, sometimes over-emphasized, but always present. During the Milan Arch Week, Beyond Representation #2 will be a roundtable discussion between public and guests to make a point on the project’s language along with Sam Jacobs (Sam Jacobs Studio), Cristina Goberna (Fake Industries Architectural Agonism), Ivan Pecoraro (squint/opera), Matteo Ghidoni (Salottobuono), Lorenzo Degli Esposti, Davide Rapp and Elisa Poli (Domus Academy / ClusterTheory).
